1984 Guided by his parents Richard attends school and begins to Draw regularly.
1991 Richard begins his secondary education where his love of Art is encouraged greatly.
1995 Richard completes his Junior Certificate Art Project and is happy.Richard receives honours for said project.
1998 On completing his Leaving Certificate including Art Projects and Portfolio.Richard receives honours for said project and is accepted in the National College of Art and Design and The Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology on receiving full marks in his portfolio assessment.
1998/99Admitted to Dun Laoghaire School of Art Design and Media, Richard attends Core Year One at DLIADT.
1999 During the summer break Richardtravels to work in Holland for three months and then travels on by road and ship to the island of Paros in the Greek Cyclades islands. During this time he keeps a visual diary.
1999/00Drafting process starts to specialize in different disciplines within Fine Art. Begins working in Fine Art interdisciplinary Digital media.
2000 In the summer of 2000 Richard takes his first trip to Thailand staying with fellow student Shaun Hill a ceramic artist with Thai mother and Irish father. A month or so into the journey Richard is involved in a motor bike accident which leave him immobile for over a month. He keeps notebooks and draws intensely during this period. Richard also reads Brian Keenan’s book An Evil Cradling which is based in the Lebanon – Richard’s birth place.
2000/01On Completion of his third year at college Richard Hearns receives a Diploma in Fine Art interdisciplinary Digital Media from DLIADT.
During this year he works continually on subjective drawings based on Brian Keenan’s book An Evil Cradling.
2001/02On Completion of his final year at college Richard Hearns receives a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art interdisciplinary Digital Media from DLIADT.
His end of year show consists of a short video / sound piece, projection / installation, entitled ‘Days merge into Night’ which is a subjective interpretation based on Brian Keenan’s time spent as a hostage in the Lebanon.
